MultCloud alternatives

The 8 tools below each do some or all of what MultCloud does. ShiftMyData comes first because this is its site; every entry says where the tool wins and where it falls short, and links to a full comparison.

Why people look for MultCloud alternatives

MultCloud is the incumbent in cloud-to-cloud transfer. The reasons people look past it are specific:

Sync modes are rarely the deciding factor: MultCloud advertises 10 and ShiftMyData has 9, including two-way. What separates the tools below is mostly whether transfers are metered, whether you can host it yourself, and whether it keeps running with your computer off.

8 MultCloud alternatives

1. ShiftMyData

Server-side cloud-to-cloud transfer and sync, built on rclone: 85 providers across 60 backends and 9 sync modes, including two-way.

Providers: 85 across 60 backends · Transfer metering: Prepaid: 30 GB free, then 500 GB for ₹100 or 2,500 GB for ₹500, each valid a year · Self-hostable: yes

Where it wins. Large moves at a prepaid price per gigabyte far below per-GB migration services, transfers that keep running on the server after you close the laptop, client-side encryption over any backend, and the option to host it yourself so your provider tokens stay on your server.

Where it falls short. It is newer than MultCloud, with a shorter track record. cloudHQ's Google Workspace integration is deeper, Otixo's encrypted workspaces are not something it offers, and for occasional one-off copies from a terminal, plain rclone is free.

2. rclone

The open-source engine underneath most of this category, including ShiftMyData itself.

Providers: 70, as counted by them · Transfer metering: none · Self-hostable: yes

Where it wins. rclone is superb software, it is free, and we use it. If you are comfortable in a terminal and only need occasional one-off copies, you do not need us at all -- use rclone directly and keep the money.

Where it falls short. rclone is a command-line tool. There is no hosted UI, no accounts, no scheduler daemon and no notion of other people using it.

3. Air Explorer

A desktop file manager that connects several clouds at once.

Providers: 30, as counted by them · Transfer metering: none · Self-hostable: no

Where it wins. As a desktop application it is fast, cheap, and has no server in the middle holding your tokens. For browsing and moving modest amounts between clouds on one machine it does the job well.

Where it falls short. Air Explorer is a desktop application, so transfers run on your computer and the bytes travel down to it and back up again.

4. cloudHQ

Continuous replication between cloud services, aimed at Google Workspace teams.

Providers: 20, as counted by them · Transfer metering: none · Self-hostable: no

Where it wins. cloudHQ's continuous replication is more mature than most, and its Google Workspace integration is deeper than ours. For an organisation that lives entirely in Workspace and wants always-on mirroring, it is a strong fit.

Where it falls short. Pricing is per user per month, and the provider list is narrower than the category's.

5. Cloudsfer

Migration-first transfer service aimed at businesses, priced by volume.

Providers: 20, as counted by them · Transfer metering: by data volume · Self-hostable: no

Where it wins. Cloudsfer is built around one-off migrations with reporting and support attached, and for a business that wants somebody accountable for a move, that is worth paying for.

Where it falls short. Priced per migrated volume, with business plans quoted rather than listed.

6. Otixo

Unified access to several clouds, with collaboration workspaces attached.

Providers: 30, as counted by them · Transfer metering: by data volume · Self-hostable: no

Where it wins. Otixo's encrypted workspaces are a genuine feature and not something we offer.

Where it falls short. Paid plans meter transfer volume.

7. Movebot

A migration service for businesses: files, shared drives and mailboxes, paid per gigabyte and per mailbox with no subscription.

Transfer metering: $0.75 or less per GB of files; $15 per mailbox · Self-hostable: no

Where it wins. Movebot's pricing is unusually plain -- no subscription, no seat fees, free scanning -- and it moves mailboxes with their contacts and calendars as one priced unit. For a one-off business migration with a known size, that is easy to budget.

Where it falls short. File migrations are charged per gigabyte, up to $0.75 per GB, and each mailbox costs $15 to move.

8. CloudFuze

An enterprise migration vendor for files, chat (Slack to Teams) and SaaS governance, sold through tailored quotes.

Transfer metering: Quoted per migration · Self-hostable: yes

Where it wins. CloudFuze migrates live chat -- Slack channels, threads and direct messages into Microsoft Teams, with delta passes -- which ShiftMyData does not: it archives chats into a cloud instead. For an enterprise moving its messaging platform, that is the feature that matters.

Where it falls short. Prices are tailored quotes rather than a published list.

When to stay with MultCloud

MultCloud got here first and the product is mature. Its Cloud Explorer is genuinely good, and if you want a hosted tool with a long track record and never intend to run anything yourself, it is a reasonable choice.

Questions

What is the best MultCloud alternative?

It depends on why you are leaving. For hosted transfers at a low prepaid price, or to run it on your own server, ShiftMyData. For occasional one-off copies from a terminal, rclone, which is free. For moving modest amounts between clouds on one machine, Air Explorer. For always-on mirroring inside Google Workspace, cloudHQ. For a business migration with somebody accountable for it, Cloudsfer or Movebot. For moving Slack into Microsoft Teams, CloudFuze. For encrypted collaboration workspaces, Otixo.

Which MultCloud alternatives do not meter transfers?

rclone, Air Explorer and cloudHQ do not meter transfers by data volume. Cloudsfer, Otixo and Movebot do, as MultCloud does. ShiftMyData sells data in prepaid packs: 30 GB free, then 500 GB for ₹100 or 2,500 GB for ₹500, each valid a year.

Can I self-host a MultCloud alternative?

Yes. ShiftMyData, rclone and CloudFuze run on your own server, so your provider tokens never leave it. rclone is a command-line tool; ShiftMyData runs it and adds the web interface, accounts and job queue around it. Air Explorer is a desktop application, so no server holds your tokens, but transfers stop when your computer does.
